(Burlington, 1984)
Cecilia Duran (Lic, Architect, Universidad de Buenos Aires; M.A., History and Culture of Architecture and the City, Universidad Torcuato Di Tella) completed her M.A. with a thesis on the trend of modernizing public architecture in Argentina during the 1930s and early 1940s, with a focus on collaborations between architects and visual artists. The thesis was awarded a National Secretariat of Culture prize as part of the “Publish your thesis” competition (2019) and published as a book by Prohistoria. A PhD candidate with a minor in Social Sciences (Universidad Nacional de Quilmes), she was a CONICET doctoral fellow (2014-2019). She is a member of the Laboratory of Space, Technology, and Culture at the Universidad Nacional de Quilmes.
She currently teaches “The Material Turn in Cultural History”with Dhan Zunino Singh in the Master's Program in Intellectual History at the UNQ. She has taught History of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, in the Architecture Program at the Universidad de La Matanza, and various subjects in the area of History and Theory at the School of Architecture of the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.
Durán’s doctoral research explores how architecture was linked to the field of visual arts and industrial production during the first half of the 20th century in Argentina, a period in which the discipline underwent an intense process of renewal. This dual articulation finds an important point of convergence in the field of decorative and applied arts, as an area of overlap and exchange between architects, visual artists, and actors who dealt with production issues (not only industrialists, but also public figures such as politicians and intellectuals).
